Best Move For Redskins Lower Profile Coach?

January 10, 2008 by Lee

One thing we have learned over the years is that Daniel Snyder likes to make headlines. The football world has been conditioned to want to know what this guy is going to do next, like him or not. Once again we are waiting to see what he is going to do next with his Head Coach position.

All the big names are coming up…Bill Cower and Pete Carroll jump to the top of the gossip list. They are still in the early talking stages and have reportedly not contacted anyone yet.

This whole “throw money at the biggest name we can thing” has not always turned out for the best. Would the move for the Redskins here be to go with a lower profile name? Greg Williams will eventually be a Head Coach in this league, why not move him up the ranks? Why not bring the Ol’ Hog, Russ Grimm, back to D.C.? Instead of the instant gratification of having a big name coach, why not build one yourself? That would be a nice change for Snyder.

Alas, we once again wait while Snyder makes his next announcement.

Knowing that Snyder likes big moves, he could make a splash and make a smart move by hiring the guy who was just canned on the other side of the beltway in Brian Billick, but only if they keep the defensive staff in Greg Williams, because that has been the strong point for the Skins and changing that would be devastating. Snyder could easily just promote Williams from within that would be another good move but not as flashy.
