Weather and the Super Bowl

Take a look at where the games are going to be played this weekend. New England and Green Bay. Take a look at where 3 of the 4 teams in the conference championship games are from: Green Bay, New England & New York. Are you finding a connection? I am, it’s weather!

Why do these teams battle through the snow, cold, rain, sleet and whatever else the fans throw on the field only to have the most important game take place in a dome or at a stadium where there is a 99% chance of sun and nothing else? Are they really crowning a champion of the NFL or is it just who can grind it out in the playoffs, but then has a little better nice weather game than the other team?

Why does the NFL handicap the Super Bowl? Is it for the $? Duh…

I think they should draw the Super Bowl field out of a hat. Don’t include any city that has hosted the SB in the last 5-7 years. If it ends up in Chicago, that’s where it is. If it is in Miami, so be it. At least give those teams like Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Seattle, that have to deal with weather and are better because of it, a decent chance. I understand the NFL loves their $, but I think people would enjoy a nice snow game to decide the world champion.

This is a great discussion. I have always been for games in the elements. I’m one that feels we should do away with the Domes all together. Then again, I’m not the one trying to rake in a payday. One of the things I’m excited about this weekend with the conference title games in New England and Green Bay is the possibility of some snow or freezing rain. The way football in January should be played.

Remember when they cried because of all the rain last year? They freaked out the year it was in Atlanta and they had an ice storm…and that was in a dome. They even complained about Jacksonville because…well…there just isn’t much to do there. Once it gets to that big stage, crowning the NFL Champs is just a fraction of what is going on. As you mentioned, it’s all about the money and everyone knows that. Weather would dampen the production. Come on Kelloggs, we are possibly talking about Paula Abdul’s hair getting wet if it rains…could you imagine snow and ice? Tom Petty’s hip might go.

I would love to the big game spread about the league, regardless of it’s in Cleveland or Green Bay. Speaking of Green Bay, you think they had nothing to do in Jacksonville…lol?
