Will the Saints Drop a Deuce?
Speculation is what we do in the offseason, right? It has come time to speculate what will happen with Deuce McAllister in New Orleans. As long as he is there we can look forward to this on a yearly basis since Reggie Bush has been added to the backfield.
Saints GM Mickey Loomis is getting hit with the questions on Deuce already at the Senior Bowl. Given the injury McAllister sustained this year and the fact that he will make$3.6 Million and be up for another million in roster bonus this year the media just has to ask. The answer can’t make the Deuce too comfortable…
“We’ve got till March to make those kinds of decisions and to look at it,” Loomis said. “We’ll spend some time looking at it, evaluating what’s best for our team and for Deuce. We haven’t made any decisions.”
There is a decision to be made? Well, we know they are thinking about it. But Mickey, what if you want to move this guy? You better say something so people don’t think it’s because the injury…
“I think what’s clear is this: He had a successful surgery, he’s done well in his rehab up to date,” Loomis said. “Guys have come back and can come back from that kind of injury. And Deuce’s dedication to his rehab will determine how well he comes back, if he comes back and how soon he comes back.”
The Saints have some work to do with the contracts of Unrestricted Free Agents. Who will they keep and how much cash will they need to do it? Do they need to drop a Deuce? Some fo the names that they may be interested in keeping on the list are Mark Simoneau, Jeff Faine, Jamar Nesbit, Brian Young, David Patten, Eric Johnson, Devery “the drop” Henderson, and Terrance Copper. Aaron Stecker is also on the list and his signing can tell us a little bit on plans for Deuce.

This would make me sad. Maybe they can restructure his contract.
You just had to go with that title. Seriously….
Maybe it is just because I have been watching Maria Sharapova, Ana Ivanovic and the rest of the tennis world play in Melbourne at the Aussia Open, where the judges pronounce ‘deuce’ as ‘De-oose’, so I have thought more about the word than I ever have, but the shock of seeing Deuce written in this fashion made me laugh out loud. I may not even be able to finish watching the tournament now, even though I love watching Maria and hearing her sweaty grunts and shrieks of anger and joy. Point is: this title is up for funniest of the year.
Thanks FanYard. Come’on TJ…I’m a man, not a machine!
