The New Face of Sports Social Networking
Since Football Jabber is still new, just passing our second month, we are always looking for ways to get the word out. Thank you to the Jabber Heads that pass the word when they come across something here of interest. Many of our hits come from links posted by you in forums and social networking sites.
Recently our friend, The Fantasy Football Goat, outlined some sites for promoting you and your sports blog. Of course these are great places for fans to hang out to gain and share information as well as promote your site. This morning I stumbled across SportProjections.com. Although they are not necessarily new, they have just launched a new version of the site. It’s very easy to start your own page or group. In fact, I have started a group for Football Jabber to serve as a form of a community. Jabber Heads please join up and join the group!

To give the Jabber Heads a better idea about the place we asked Chris if he could do a little Q&A with us and he was more than happy to!
Sportprojections.com appears fairly new, how about some history?
Chris: SportProjections.com launched June 2007. At the time, I was sitting in the hospital day after day with my premature baby son (born three months early) fighting for his life. I had to find a release from all the stress. I’ve been a rabid sports fan all my life, so I worked with Lonnie White (another super fan) to create SportProjections.com. Our main objective at the time was to create a site with all our favorite teams’ headlines in one location, where we could publish sport predictions and blog about the hottest sport topics each day.
In February 2008, we increased the site’s features and launched our sport-only social network. This launch will benefit and promote sport sites across the web. Sites can create their own pages, and sport fans can find the best sport information on the web. We hope hundreds of great sport sites across the web will work with us to promote each of our sites. Our new site will provide an opportunity for all sport sites to work together for success.
What are some of the features prospective members should know about?
Chris: For members who have their own sites, SportProjections.com is the perfect place to promote their websites. Other social networks (MySpace/Facebook) provide a forum for music bands, companies, etc. to promote their web pages, but SportProjections.com is strictly for sports. We know how difficult it is to promote a site across the web. A website may have the best information on the web, but traffic is still difficult to generate. We want to work with all sport-related sites to help them generate web traffic. Instead of looking for contacts across the web, SportProjections.com will be a central hub to promote and network with others.
Creating a profile and group for an existing site on SportProjections.com will link others to the site and will be a big boost for search engine optimization. We recommend participating in discussion forums across the site. Participation by sport-related site owners will generate buzz for their sites. Fans will be more likely to frequent a site if they have a personal connection with an owner.
We also recommend site owners publish the same type of material to create a group to socialize and find ways to work together. Instead of competing against each other, SportProjections.com will create a powerful network and will work with owners. This type of synergy will give every site the opportunity to be successful.
Sport fans with their own sites have the passion and knowledge to be as successful as the top sport sites on the web. Until now, networking between site owners hasn’t been successful enough to achieve most of our goals. We can change that with SportProjections.com as a hub to reach these goals. We are passionate about our site, and we know many of you have the same passion. We want to work together to achieve success.
Future plans in the works?
Chris: Since we just launched SportProjections.com’s new site, we are working to create buzz about it. We want a site that will draw sport fans to it daily. Now is the perfect time for site owners to stake a claim on the site. We hope visitors across the globe will create pages about soccer, cricket, rugby, etc. We plan to find the best sport’s news across the web and feature it on our home and group pages. We also want to generate podcasts interviewing other site owners about the teams or fantasy sports they cover. We want to collaborate with others to create predictions, previews, mid-season grades, mock drafts, etc. The more we work with each other, the more successful we’ll all be.
Anything else you would like to add?
The great part about the site is that anyone can create a group page. People will discover the site is perfect for groups for their high school team, intramural team, kid’s soccer league, etc. They can easily generate the team’s schedule and add scores, pictures, and videos of the games. The site can be a hub for all your sport aspirations. Please feel free to contact me at anytime at http://www.sportprojections.com/profile/ChrisFry. ;
