Anquan Boldin ticked and other Favreless NFL News

July 25, 2008 by Lee

It’s safe to say that Anquan Boldin is a little ticked off. All appeared to be going well when it was reported that Boldin would show up to camp this week, but things could be going very, very wrong.  A team Captain last season, he says that he was promised a new deal (again) and now has told Drew Rosenhause to call off the talks.

“Right now, I don’t want a deal,” he said Thursday after the players went through a running drill. “You may think I’m funny or saying that just to say it, but for me, I’m tired of it. I washed my hands of the whole situation.”

Refusing to accept that Rex Grossman or Kyle Orton will be the QB in Chicago, Brad Biggs at the Chicago Sun Times talks about the Bears trading for Chris Simms.  Meanwhile, in real Bears land, both QB’s looked “solid” in camp.

If history tells us anything about Donte Stallworth this sentence can be changed and used over the course of the 2008 campaign for the Browns beat writers…”He rode the bike for part of the session” changed to “He rode the bike for part of the season.”

Brodie Croyle sees a bond forming with Dwayne Bowe in Kansas City.  Wouldn’t some offense there be exciting?

“Definitely. I think we started to see a bit of that last year,” Croyle said. “And then it carried on over into OTAs (organized team activities). We’re getting on the same page. There has to be a trust developing where you know he’s going to be there and he knows I’ll get him the ball.”

The QB battle for the Jets is underway.  If you score by INT’s thrown in camp, Chad Pennington is winning.

Kevin Smith understands he is in a position battle, at least for now, for the starting RB job for the Lions.  Hope Tatum Bell knows he is too considering last season he thought it was going to be handed to him.

“Whoever does the best in all phases of the game,” Smith said. “Whoever runs the ball the best. I think every running back in the backfield has the talent to run the ball. I think it’s going to come down to pass protection and catching the ball out of the backfield. And then just if you play the first game and you start … It isn’t about who starts. It’s about who finishes.”
