StatBeast Fulfills Your Widget Fantasy

August 6, 2008 by Lee

Something that we like to do here at Football Jabber is pimp out some other sites giving them a little more exposure.  Our goal here is to throw every football, fantasy football type resource at you…because sharing is nice.

Today we are going to do a little Q&A with StatBeast.  I have been waiting for this thing to go and if any of you took the link on our links page over the last six months…well, you can go back and take it again cause there is stuff there now.

Me: Since coming across Statbeast at the end of last season I have been looking forward to your launch. We have had your NFL Schedule Widget on our NFL page for quite a while but I see you have more goodies available for us now. Okay Chris, the stage is all you, tell us more about Statbeast.

Chris the StatBeast Guy: Hooking up with Football Jabber has been great for our launch, thank you again. StatBeast is a unique application for football fans that allow the user to view and understand important data quickly. We wanted to create an application that was easily integrated into sites, blogs and social networks but also allowed the user to email quick stats to a friend.

Me: I played around with the site back when it was a page where you could punch in a player and see the results from his last outings against certain teams, great for trying to get a grasp on his potential output for an upcoming game. Is this still available somewhere in all those widgets?

Chris the StatBeast Guy: We launched our prototype last year just to get a feel for the market and to road test the technology. Once we were assured that we could implement what we really wanted to do we repackaged our platform and began breaking down the data streams into widgets. We currently have over 100 widgets on the site and are added new ones constantly so if we do not have it now, check us out again in another week and see what we added. We recently implement a search feature on our site which makes looking a little easier. Every search that does not return a results is sent to our developers for review.

Me: So what are some ways that you know people are using these? I know you have them on iGoogle, where I have added some to my personal fantasy football pages I have for myself. Any other suggestions?

Chris the StatBeast Guy: We are currently on iGoogle and Facebook but we be adding our widgets to MyYahoo and MySpace in the coming weeks. I feel the blog sites are where the real opportunity lies for us so we really enjoy talking to those owners. The blogosphere contains a lot of great insight and we see ourselves as provided great content for supporting various positions on players and teams.

Me: Anything else you want to add?

Chris the StatBeast Guy:On a side not, we were asked by YouTube to participate in the FANanlysts program this year so you will catch some of our videos on that site. We will be using our widgets to make various picks during the season but it will mostly be for fun. It is an interesting thing they are doing with Circuit City so we are happy to participate. Until that site is up you can see some of our videos on www.youtube.com/statbeastsports.

So there you have it.  If you use iGoogle as your own little fantasy football center, check out some of these widgets.  Even if you have an iGoogle page dedicated to your favorite team there are team specific widgets as well.
