Get Your Picks in at Fanyard

Sometime in the middle of last season I discovered this cool site where you can make picks in NCAA and NFL football games and compete against other members at the site.  It’s different than the Average Joe Pick’em sites, you will have to see for yourself.  Myself I’m looking forward to getting in at the starting of the season this year and thought I would throw a little Q&A with Blake from The FanYard out there for Jabberheads that may be interested in the same.

Lee:  Love the new look of the site Blake!  I have to say that I’m really looking forward to getting in this season from the start on the NFL and NCAA games.  The floor is all you, tell us about FanYard.

Blake: Thanks Lee! I must say, this site of yours is really growing and looking very much like the place to go for all the fantasy advice I’m going to need this season. Very good work, man!

As for FanYard, this is our second season and we are building on the success of the first. Our unique feature, the Yardstick, did very well at predicting the winners of football and basketball games last year. In fact, of all the experts on the major sites, only one expert did better than the Yardstick during the 2007 NFL season. Mark Schlereth at ESPN managed to beat the FanYard community by just two games! This year we plan on being the best. Readers can check last season’s NFL results here: http://www.thefanyard.com/news_fanyard_vs_pros.With the coming additions of Team Pages, stats and expanded profiles, our users will be getting a lot more value on FanYard in the coming days and it will still all be for free. If anyone is wondering what the general public is feeling about the outcome of an upcoming game, FanYard is the place to find out. Upon joining, everyone gets their own Yard and Score Card; they can make and track picks on games and results of those picks on the Leaderboard, comment in the Game Yards and they join a very knowledgable base of like-minded fans.

Lee:  I see you even have the preseason games in there so people can jump in and get a feel for it now.  Are these games going to count during the season totals?  I would hate to have my record hanging on a guy who is a 3rd string QB.

Blake: What, you don’t think Alex Smith is the real deal? Just kidding. Good question and worthy concern. However, as in real life, the preseason will be practically meaningless once it is over. While people will still be able to see how the games turned out and see what kind of scores they and others received for their picks during the preseason, those scores and picks will not count towards the regular season and playoff totals. They are just a warm up.

Lee:  Have you got Mark Schlereth to join up and match wits with your members this year?

Blake: Unfortunately, we have not been able to get in touch with Mark, although I still hope to before the season starts. I’ve been in contact with KC Joyner, the Football Scientist, and he’s trying to find out how to reach Mark for me through his contacts in Bristol. Like most larger companies I’ve dealt with and worked for, there seem to be many cracks in the layers when trying to get to specifics.

Mark, if you’re out there, send me a message at blake@thefanyard.com or simply sign up at FanYard now!Q;  Fantastic!  Again, I’m really looking forward to this season and I’m going to try and incorporate some of the pick results in some of our content.  Anything you would like to add on closing?

I’d like to mention the fact that Fanyard has teamed up with a new fantasy game site called FanJack and they have completely legal fantasy sports games where players can win real cash. Definitely something your Jabberheads might be interested in!
