Last week Chris Mortenson reported that the Dolphins are looking to move Ronnie Brown.  The Dolphins begged to differ.  This week he reported that the Arizona Cardinals had named Kurt Warner starting QB.  The Cardinals beg to differ.  Is Chris Mortenson losing it?  Is he trying too hard to be the one that gets the story out first?  Do his sources suck?  These things may still happen.  For some that took Warner late in fantasy football drafts this week it may be the equivalent of naming Al Gore President.  Ken Whisenhunt commented on Mortenson directly…

“I haven’t read the paper today or seen the Internet,” Whisenhunt said. “Do we have a quarterback? … It seems like Chris Mortensen is making the decision on our quarterback for our football team. … But nothing has changed.”

Peyton Manning has been taken off the PUP list.  Still not a sure thing for week one…crazy, huh?  Manning should drop down fantasy rankings a little if he isn’t going to be giving you points the first couple of weeks.  A sure thing for years, keep an eye on him.

“I’m not really doing predictions at this point,” Manning said. “I hope to be ready, and I certainly don’t want to create this dramatic announcement. I think I will do some parts of practice today and tomorrow and I may even dress for (Thursday’s) game though I won’t play. We’ll do a short practice Monday, and then, hopefully, I’ll be full go Wednesday.”

Calvin Johnson and Roy Williams are looking forward to the new offense in Detroit.

“I’m not saying we’re Marvin [Harrison] and Reggie [Wayne] of the Colts or anything,” Williams said. “But I think Calvin and I can be pretty good on the outside if we get a chance. If this thing works the way we hope, I think we’re looking at a breakout season. To me, we’ll be the third-best duo in the league.”

The New York Post is questioning the Jets running game.  Wow…a Farveless headline!

While other teams are cutting players, the Dolphins are looking at adding some this week.  Meanwhile, Ronnie Brown and his thumb are expected to play against the Saints this week.

Rudi Johnson is not expecting to be with the Bengals much longer…

“It’s out there, so evidently it’s true,” said Johnson, a fourth-round pick by the Bengals in 2001 who emerged as a starter in 2003. “It doesn’t bother me one way or the other. I’m still going to do the same thing. It’s part of the business.”

DeSean Jackson is looking like the front runner in the rookie WR class right now and is making the most of Kevin Curtis being out in Philadelphia.

The Packers are looking to lighten the load on Ryan Grant.

“I don’t think he needs to carry it 30 times for us,” McCarthy said. “I don’t think he needs to carry it 25. I think 20 would be great. You have to be smart with a guy. You get him 20 carries a game, that’s being smart and productive. You can get him the ball some other ways through the passing game.

“I don’t want the guy to be a one- or two-year flash and be done with him. History supports that.”

Frank Gore is convinced that Mike Martz is going to change things in San Francisco.

“We have a new leader, man, a new leader on the ship,” Gore said of Martz. “When he stands up in the room, and you hear him talk, you know that he knows what he’s talking about. Everything is going to change this year.”
